Gen Con 2026 is right around the corner and the next Legends of Greyhawk (LoG) rules update is coming very soon! You will find all the details on D&D Beyond when it is posted.

The admins have been listening to discussions online and at conventions and will be making a few changes or clarifications that are especially relevant as the campaign enters into Tier 2 play. While there are a few things we are still exploring, there’s a few rules we know we want to change right now. In next few posts of this blog, I’ll be looking at the reasoning behind the ideas for those changes. As always, nothing here should be considered final until the exact wording is posted to D&D Beyond.

I hear that there is a new Marketplace activity available at Gen Con 2026. What is it and how does it work?

Taking a cue from previous Organized Play campaigns, some conventions will have a special event called a “Marketplace” where you can perform a number of actions that usually happen outside of a normal adventure but usually require a DM to sign off. The marketplace at Gen Con 2026 is called the Coinlord's Caravan and is being brought to you by the clerics of Zilchus (and the good folks of Baldman Games).

Welcome to the Coinlord's Caravan, a traveling trading post providing essential services to the Oerth adventuring community. Blessings be upon you from the Counter of Coin. Step up and allow our priests of Zilchus to perform their devotions by offering you the best trading opportunities. Each transaction not only added to our eternal ledgers but also providing you with the required paperwork to ensure your books are balanced as Zilchus requires.

This first version should be considered a trial run, and is subject to change. Future versions may include different options or rules. Here’s a few rules for how it works:

  • At Gen Con 2026, the Marketplace is a ticketed event. This ensures that when it’s your time, everything is ready for your turn and you won’t have to wait. Please have your logsheet, in order and ready.

  • To ensure equal opportunities and quickly move players through, every customer is limited to three transactions. These transactions can be taken all for one LoG character (of any level) or spread among multiple LoG characters, but no more than three transactions per person per session. You are welcome to come more than once, but you will need to get another ticket for another time.

  • Performing the same transaction a second time counts as a second transaction. So, trading for three items uses up all three of your transactions, even though it was the same type of action. You can always choose to not use all three of your transactions.

  • Log certificates will be provided to handle recording your transactions with the Marketplace.

What can I do at the Coinlord's Caravan?

The Marketplace has several options. With the permission of the BMG team, I am sharing A LOT of the details here so that people can prep all their transactions before the Gen Con 2026! You can do the following things:

  • Trade. You can trade any non-consumable magic item in your possession for another with the SAME RARITY. The following options are available:

    • Weapon +1: You can trade for a +1 version of any Simple Melee Weapon, Simple Ranged Weapon, Martial Melee Weapon, or Martial Ranged Weapon (except for any Firearms) that are present in the Players Handbook.

    • Armor or Shield +1: Armors are limited to the Armor present in the Players Handbook.

    • Common Magic Items: Adventurer’s Ring, Boots of False Tracks, Enduring Spellbook, Mask of Changed Appearance, Pole of Collapsing, and Tankard of Sobriety.

    • Uncommon Magic Items: Arcane Battery, Boots of the Winding Path, and Wraps of Unarmed Power +1.

    • Rare Magic Items: Brooch of the Elements and Ring of X-ray Vision

  • Scribe A Spell. Spells are limited to the 1st through 5th spells that are legally available in the Legends of Greyhawk campaign. Each spell scribed counts as one transaction. If a 4th or 5th level spell is scribed only one spell scribing transaction can be recorded for that character. You must pay a small additional convenience fee to the clerics of Zilchus for access to their library.

  • Buy a Potion or Bundle of Ammunition. You can buy any Common, Uncommon or Rare potion or magical ammunition (in a bundle of 10) that is legal for the Legends of Greyhawk campaign. These consumables are limited to the potions and magical ammunition present in the Players Handbook or Dungeon Masters Guide. Every potion or ammunition bundle purchased counts as one transaction.

  • Buy a Scroll. Spell Scrolls are limited to the spells up to 4th level legally available in Legends of Greyhawk. Each Spell Scroll bought counts as one transaction. In addition to the listed price, if the spell has an expensive spell component (*), its cost will be added to the cost of the scroll.

  • Spellcasting Services. You can purchase spellcasting services up to 5th level spells limited to the spells legally available in the Legends of Greyhawk campaign. Each Spellcasting Service bought counts as one transaction. In addition to the listed price, if the spell has an expensive spell component (*), its cost will be added to the cost of the spellcasting service.

  • Adventuring Insurance. You can purchase Death Insurance for the cost of 2300 gp! A player can invoke the insurance at the end of an adventure if and when the character is dead, and can still be restored to life using a Raise Dead spell. The character must pay an additional 10 gp per level they have attained at the time of their passing in order to be raised. There is an additional 50 gp cost to invoke your policy for another character. Any character thus raised receives rewards for the adventure as normal. Each Death Insurance policy purchased counts as one transaction and each character can possess only one policy.

I’m getting to Tier 2 and want to buy cool things at the Marketplace, maybe some armor, oh, and I want to be able to afford a raise dead spell. How can I do it? (also called burying the lead)

The Admins and POs recognize that there’s lots of cool options, and you might not quite be earning quite enough gold in Tier 2 adventures to take full advantage. So, starting at Gen Con, we are changing how much gold can be earned from Tier 2 adventures. Bundle 2 will give 450 gp and Bundle 3 will give 225 gp, in addition to the roll for a random magic item from the semi-annual table. Newly released adventures will note this change, but don’t worry, the change is retroactive for all the Tier 2 Adventures that your characters may have played and chosen Bundle 2 or 3. Adjust your logsheet accordingly.

Hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes preview!
